Is 139 just some random number?

Hey y’all,

Today I wanted to talk about the ‘139’ in 139 Diaries. Is it just some random number OR does it actually stand for something?  But before I do that, just a quick recap in case you missed it— 139 Diaries is a new blog that exists as an outreach ministry of the organization, 139 Wellness (139wellness.org).  139 Diaries is a way for 139 Members to share our testimonies and stories of how God is working in and through our lives.   We pray that God will use it not only for our own healing, but also as an avenue to take the Gospel to the ends of the earth.

With that being said, let's get down to the nitty gritty of what the ‘139’ is all about in both 139 Diaries and 139 Wellness. Long story short--it stands for Psalm 139, specifically, Psalm 139:13-14. That passage says, "for you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb.  I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.  Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.”

WHY is that the driving force behind our ministry?  Because it’s who God says you are.  YOU are fearfully and wonderfully made.  He knit YOU together in your mother’s womb.  You are not a mistake.  You were made with a purpose.  He knows you completely AND He loves you perfectly.  That’s just who you are.

Most of the time, struggles with food, body image, and exercise are deeply rooted in a struggle with identity.  We struggle to know WHO we really are, so we go looking for it in this world.  We think, ‘maybe if I look like her I will be fully and finally satisfied.’  Or ‘if I lose ten more pounds, I will finally be happy.’  But what happens when you reach those goals only to realize that you are still miserable?  It's because the longing we have deep in our souls can not be satisfied by anything here on earth.  We have a Jesus sized whole in our hearts and He is the only thing that can heal us and make us whole.

Early on in my eating disorder recovery, I was in a very dark place.  Having several flashbacks daily to my childhood trauma, I could barely function.  Struggling with suicidal thoughts and not understanding how I could possibly live another day, God led me to Psalm 139.  It is where I found hope.  He spoke life into my soul through those verses and He continues to daily. I say all of the time that He used that passage to save my life.

I know that for the rest of my days I will be shouting from the rooftops: 1. The Goodness of God.  That if Jesus can save a wretch like me from my own depravity then there TRULY is hope for anyone and everyone.  2.  You are fearfully and wonderfully made.  How do I know? Because if you are reading this, you are a human.  If you are a human, YOU are an image bearer of God.  (See Genesis 1:27).  This means that YOU have been reverently made by the King of the entire universe.  That is kind of a big deal.  You are not a big deal, but God is the biggest deal, and HE.MADE.YOU.

To sum it all up, that’s what the ‘139’ in 139 Diaries/139 Wellness stands for. It is our prayer that you would begin to see yourself the way that God sees you.  Living in the freedom that you are fearfully and wonderfully made will allow you to experience the abundant life that Jesus talks about in John 10:10.  Stick around to hear more about that soon.

You are fearfully and wonderfully made!

Love,

Camille
