Do not grow weary in doing good.

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.

Galatians 6:9

Hey y'all,

Man, last night’s 139 Wellness meeting was LIT.  Does that make me sound old?  Not sure if ‘lit’ is still cool or not but that is the only way I can think to describe it.  It was a small group last night and it allowed us to go really deep with each other.  If you don't know, our Monday night recovery meetings exist for us to grow in our relationships with the Lord, to deepen our understanding that we are fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God, and for us to point each other back to Christ as we recover from issues with food, body image, and exercise.

And last night, we did all of those things.  First, we shared ways that we had nourished ourselves this past week.  This can be with food, movement, rest, relationships, time in the Word, etc.  I am always so encouraged by how God is moving in and through our members as we grow in HOW to love ourselves in these ways.  As my friends shared, all I could think of was how GOOD God is.  He has provided a space where those of us with a common struggle can come together and celebrate how He is giving us victory over those exact struggles week after week.  We always start off our time together this way and it is extremely encouraging.

Following ‘nourishment’ time, we move into a space of sharing for anyone who is struggling and wants to voice it.  Sometimes no one shares, sometimes everyone shares.  It just depends on the week.  Last night, all of us shared and it was beautiful.  As we shared with one another, the verse above from Galatians 6 came up.  ‘And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.’  We had been discussing how difficult eating disorder recovery can be.  Day in and day out, it just seems so hard sometimes.  Like you are just spinning your wheels.  It can feel very hard to track progress and honestly, by the world’s standards, if you are active in your eating disorder (privately), you usually end up getting praised for it publicly for how you look.  IT IS A MESS.

That’s when this idea came up.  Do not grow weary in doing good.  Not in recovery or in anything else the Lord is calling you to do.

Why?  Because in due season, we will reap if we do not give up.  What will we reap?  The harvest.  Good fruit.  And friends, that is worth sticking it out for.  The eating disorder only leads to one place: death.  Jesus came so that we could have life and have it abundantly.  Not only is He the Good Shepherd, Jesus is a High Priest who sympathizes with us because He was tempted in every way we are accept He did not sin.

So when we feel like giving up because it just feels too hard, we can bring it to Jesus.  We can cast our cares on Him because He cares for us.  His yoke is easy and His burden is light, He will give us rest for our souls.

Keep fighting.  God will give you the strength you need to get through every second of every day.  If you are alone, seek out some Gospel-centered community.  If you don’t know where to start, shoot us a message and join ours.  We recover better together.

You are fearfully and wonderfully made!

Love,

Camille
